Each month after distribution of The Celtic Connection is complete, Colleen and myself will generally drop in to one of our local Celtic establishments for some lunch and refreshment.
After the May issue we dropped in to visit the popular Dublin Crossing Irish Pub in Surrey.
The pub is renowned for its excellent cuisine which is specially prepared by their award winning chef Laura Sharpe.
The Dublin Crossing presents a casual and sociable atmosphere where you can feel comfortable in any of their many snug areas.
One of the other pluses is that you can actually talk to one another while enjoying lunch without having to compete with loud intrusive background music.
Since my last visit to the pub, Nova Scotia-born owner Jim MacIntyre has undergone a complete physical make-over from head to toe. In fact, I barely recognised him...he looks absolutely terrific.
Jim is a real public relations charmer who enjoys talking to his patrons. He takes great pride in his establishment and loves nothing better than to give a tour of the premises.
MacIntyre was excited to point out to me the renovation work underway on the faux wall coverings in the pub and the new illuminated Guinness sign outside at the end of the pub, which is near the entrance to the patio.
He also pointed out the beautiful Irish painting of Malahide Castle that was painted and presented to the pub by Irene Laycock. Irene and her husband Wayne were the 2007 winners of the trip for two to Ireland, the trip is a special St. Patrick’s feature every March at the Dublin Crossing.
Jim is also thinking about the possibility of opening a second Dublin Crossing but is taking his time since he says location is everything and that he will know when he finds that perfect location.
He certainly chose the right location for the first Dublin Crossing and I must also add that he chose his management and staff well...maybe he can clone them for his next location.
The Dublin Crossing showcases some of the best Celtic artists in the Fraser Valley and features live Celtic music six nights a week.
JIM MACINTYRE, owner of the Dublin Crossing, with After perusing the tempting menu both Colleen and I were spoiled for choice but I finally settled on the meat loaf and garlic mashed potatoes which came with roasted glazed carrots.
Colleen ordered the stuffed baby yorkies, which is roast beef, gravy and mashed potatoes all tucked inside a Yorkshire pudding with a side of horseradish sauce. For dessert, we shared a lemon tart which is accompanied with ice-cream. We both thoroughly enjoyed our choices.
Irish pubs are noted for their welcoming and friendly service and the Dublin Crossing more than lives up to that reputation.
