Damian O'Braonain (Brennan)
Damian the youngest of ten was born in Belfast N.Ireland and even as a baby was noted for his ability to make sounds! These sounds were later refined as music by teachers at the Holy Child primary school who directed and greatly encouraged Damian to pursue his musical career. Damian started with the Tin Whistle under the guidance of various teachers and then was mentored by the great Gogi McCullough (all Ireland Whistle Champion) Damian then self taught himself the Bodhran and guitar with vocals coming later. Damian's stage persona is always entertaining laced with some hysterically funny and high energy performances. While in Ireland Damian started with show bands doing weddings and pub gigs then later played guitar and sang lead with the popular “Souled Out” band from Dublin who were a featured act at the Baggot Inn amongst many popular Dublin venues. Upon arriving in Canada in the late eighties, Damian continued his performances as a single act playing the ever growing Irish pub circuit and then later forming Murphy’s lagh.
Shamma:
Shamma, the eldest of the Sabir Sisters, is widely acknowledged as one of Canada’s best fiddlers. She was the first and youngest female nominee ever to be invited to the Canadian Grand Masters Championships and placed in Canada’s top eleven in Ottawa. She is a songwriter and composer with writing credits on the albums of many prestigious Canadian fiddlers including Calvin Vollrath and Gordon Stobbe. Shamma’s heartfelt bluesy vocals, combined with her fiddle, mandolin and cello offerings give the group a flavor that places them in a musical sphere of their own.
Mike Magnusson: Drums.
A graduate of Capilano College Jazz program, Mike brings a unique style of playing to the group. A power house drummer, a master of finesse and a creative percussionist, Mike has it all! The discipline of his Jazz training shows through in every wonderful performance. The kind of musician that other musicians love to listen to and watch in amazement.
